Voice heard in Parliament last night

I was in Portcullis House Parliament last night for the APPG meeting on Poverty. With TAP Taxpayers against poverty.  My goodness was in shock at all that was being presented.  Stats after stats, reports after reports that have been presented to government to show how many are struggling in pain with poverty. Folk that are not "something for nothing" but in need of support from a society that should be driven on compassion and the desire to keep citizens safe, healthy and well with the Maslow Hierarchy of needs met. Folk that were in mental pain that was exacerbated by failed policies policies that led to harassment from bailiffs for debts that are not really their debts.... but debts from failed system of supposed support. Folk driven to feelings of suicide or have actually committed suicide. Folk like myself having drops in benefits for 6-8 weeks sanctioned because we are in pain.. social, physical and psychological pain of needing support and absolutely in need of support.  Shameful in 2017 we have in the UK people in hunger and vitamin deficiencies yet we all pay tax. I looked out of the window from the coffee room in Portcullis house and saw the crowds outside, made up of tourists and residents and workers of this land.. and in that snapshot of a crowd I could see all the revenue being generated in this land.  The moment anyone puts a foot on British soil they start paying tax. So where the heck is it all going to then fail and cutback on support for those in need.

I was able to get over my deep concern over women that have fled domestic violence being subject to drops in support.  Women's voices got heard last night.  I stressed as an expert by experience that this is dangerous to drop support. it could lead to return to violence and her murder or her committing suicide in the post traumatic depression the journey of the aftermath puts women on.  I stressed the need to have a Strong and Stable pathway of support for the journey of healing, detoxing from the ugliness of violence upon her and rebuilding her life.  In that journey there needs some overlap of support for the time she is ready to re-enter the job market and try to work again. She wants to work and regain her financial dignity and independence but she needs help over the early six months of a new job.  We all know there are bullies in the workplace and she needs to be strong enough to cope and shine in her work environment not feel she is being bullied and put down again. Remember she has been living with a bully and abuser.  She needs time to heal. She is not a "something for nothing" benefits cheat as the Cameron policies suggest in their very badly written DWP policies.  She is a woman in need of healing and support. Some may never be able to return to work with the residual physical injuries their perpetrators inflicted upon them. We need to provide financial dignity for all her needs to be met. Out of social conscious and concern and compassion we need to do this!

Dreadful to hear the bullying and harassment that private debt collectors train their workforce to do.. How can we let a woman that has been through rape and beatings from her perpetrator then be failed by a system that leads her to be harassed and bullied by bailiffs called to collect debts that are NOT HER DEBTS but the System failing her and creating those debts?    I was able to tell the group that I had actually been impressed by a bailiff that rang me with love and care and concern.  He Said, "Marjorie we have sent all your files back the London Borough of Hillingdon as we want no part of this collection we see you as a vulnerable adult with all you have been through and are going through.  We cannot go ahead with collecting from you." I could have hugged him down the phone and told him thank you for seeing the situation and the need I am in.

I am shocked and shamed of my country when I hear that for years Government has been presented with the evidence of poverty that are a direct result from badly written policies - yet they fail to hear and see and change their acts accordingly.

Poverty and psycho-social pain in society is diagnostic of a FAILED governments and the cases I heard last night are more evidence of a Breach of State Duty of Care to Citizens.

The group agreed with me that a Society without Compassion Ceases to be a society!

Thank God for the APPG Poverty
and their acceptance of me in their meeting and for future meetings together.  The people must come together and say enough this we cannot have in 2017 Stories of poverty more from history books on 1817 than 2017...!
